Ballet Folklórico at CMU

Hispanic culture is often lumped into stereotypical categories when it comes to the style of music and dance. Mariachi music and dancing around a sombrero, Regina Araujo-Pedroza is here to show Central Michigan University that there's more to Hispanic culture than just Mariachi music. Shelby Township freshman Regina Ararujo-Pedroza founded the first Ballet Folklórico Registered Student Organization (RSO), on CMUs campus in March of the Spring 2021 semester. Araujo-Pedroza hopes to create a community for current and future Hispanic students, and to spread the culture of the different styles of dance and music to students of other backgrounds. Mexico is composed of many different regions, and Ballet Folklórico helps to highlight these regions. It combines every region of dance into one performance. Combining Mexican history with the techniques and styling of ballet, and other traditional styles of dancing. Ararujo-Pedroza has been dancing Ballet Folklórico with the dance troupe Ballet Folklórico Moyocoyani Izel since the summer of 2020, and has been dancing Ballet Folklórico for the past 4 years.
